Outstanding Contribution to Widening Participation – Commendation
Judith has worked at Blackpool and the Fylde College for 23 years with a background of lecturing and curriculum management. In the last 10 years she has taken a senior role and lead in Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Widening Participation, especially in the bridging of identified or potential gaps for students to become the best they can be and reach their potential. One of the major contributions has been in the design of a management and operational structure to support looked after children and care leavers. This has become a successfully embedded system of support which is not only sustainable but has provided a model for the support of other cohorts. Judith was a finalist this year in the NAS professional in education awards, and also won an inspirational leadership award with NAMSS (National Association of Managers of Student Services) for partnership working with careers and financial support. She chaired the Equality Committee for many years and now works with others on the Access Agreement to OFFA, outlining the College’s provision for widening participation, and on publishing the objectives of the College’s equality statement.
