Connor Cranston (Bournemouth University)

Student of the Year – Commendation

NEON_2016-36

As an outreach placement student and student ambassador, Connor made a fantastic contribution to Bournemouth University. Although his course at Bournemouth did not require a placement year, Connor convinced his academic adviser to let him work for the outreach department as he was committed to helping young people in the way that he had been helped as an ‘Aimhigher’ boy in the North East of England. He continued to contribute to the programme once the placement was completed, delivering workshops and working on mentoring and summer school programmes throughout his final year. Connor made a real difference both through creation of innovative outreach activities – which Bournemouth University is still using – and through his commitment to supporting young people as a mentor on Books & Stories, Summer Breaks and Employability programmes. Highlight Connor did outreach solely because he wanted to make a difference and knew he had the skills and attributes to be able to reach young people.
