Parents, carers and teachers play a crucial role in shaping young people’s educational journeys, but any outdated or misinformed advice they give can significantly affect learners’ choices. We therefore need to find ways that higher education providers, and the broader sector, can engage with these key influencers and ensure their knowledge is informed by facts. By the end of this  online course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the key influencers of young people, and assess the impact that they have on their future choices.
  • Investigate how an individual’s own educational experience may impact upon the information, advice and guidance (IAG) that they impart.
  • Draw on the experiences of participants to consider and understand the challenges in effectively engaging parents/carers and teachers in meaningful activities.
  • Critically evaluate a number of strategies for parental/carer engagement and develop an understanding of the types of activities that could work best in their own institution.
  • Devise a series of activities to be delivered within their own organisation.
