Enabling white working-class students to access higher education
9:30 am - 4:00 pm
White young people are less likely to apply for higher education and also have lower levels in attainment at school.
Following the NEON research in 2019 on ‘Working Class Heroes – Understanding access to higher education for white students from lower socio-economic backgrounds’, NEON are keen to support the sector by holding a one day summit to highlight this issue and bring it to the forefront of widening access work.
During the day we will:
- Review the latest research into the progression, retention and success of young white males from disadvantaged backgrounds;
- Hear about the progress that has been made;
- Share insights into current practice that specifically supports this target group;
- Discuss future strategies to ensure HEIs can make progress in this important area.
