14.10 – 14.40pm | Creative Methods: White Water Writers- Thematic Analysis
White Water Writers is a project that gives groups of young people the opportunity to collaboratively write and publish a novel in a single week. A thematic analysis of the themes in the novels was conducted alongside focus group interviews. We interpreted two major themes in the novels: diversity and interpersonal connectivity. Analysis of the interviews suggested the writers explored ideas and identity through the safe space of fiction. This is understood through the lens of the Theory of Possible selves (Markus & Nurius, 86)) and the Capability Approach (Sen, 92). | Richard Seymour, Higher Horizons
