The recent ministerial letter to the Director of Fair Access to Higher Education, and the subsequent Access Agreement guidance, have asked the sector to “improve participation amongst young white males from lower socio-economic groups, whose participation is particularly poor”.

NEON are keen to support the sector by holding a special one day summit on 16 May 2016 in Central London. During the day we will:

  • Review the latest research into the progression, retention and success of young white males from disadvantaged backgrounds;
  • Hear from OFFA about the progress they expect HEIs to make in this area;
  • Share the findings from a special NEON members’ report highlighting current practice that specifically supports this target group;
  • Discuss future strategies to ensure HEIs can make progress in this important area.

This special NEON event to be held on May 16 in Central London. There will be contributions from:

  • Professor Les Ebdon – Director of Fair Access to Higher Education, OFFA
  • Lucy Stokes – Senior Research Fellow, National Institute of Economic and Social Research
  • Hannah Merry – Project Officer, Higher Horizons
  • Helen Thorne MBE – Director of External Relations, UCAS
