Student of the Year – Commendation
Gary not only demonstrates but personifies commitment, enthusiasm and a can-do attitude in all aspects of his roles as a student, student representative, Student Ambassador, colleague and as a peer mentor. He is always positive and approachable and willing to contribute to widening access at The Oldham College. Gary left school at sixteen, believing education would never be a route for him to follow. Being at University has given him confidence to take risks, put himself into situations where he can share his own experience enabling others to benefit. He has been a Greater Manchester Higher Ambassador since Year 2 of his BSc Psychological Studies degree. Gary took on the Student Ambassador role with enthusiasm and his characteristic optimism. Gary’s distinctive contribution is the way he connects his experiences and is able to communicate the benefits that higher education can offer.
