London after levelling up? Inequality, Opportunity and the future of the capital’

Committee Room 5 in the House of Commons
13th of March 2024 from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
Sponsored and supported by Rupa Haq MP for Ealing

As you will be aware the present approach to addressing inequality via the levelling up agenda has given London a relatively low priority. The symposium aims to focus on the challenges that exist regarding inequality in London and how they can be addressed by the next government. There will be an invited audience for the symposium from the policy community, voluntary and private sectors and higher education. Attendance from parliamentarians to whom this agenda is relevant is expected. Speakers are:

  • Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing
  • Professor Peter John, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive, University of West London
  • Jo Dromey, Director, Central London Forward
  • Dr Jack Brown, Lecturer in London Studies, King’s College London and Joe Fyans, Head of Research, Localis
  • Dr Jessica Allen, Institute for Health Equity, University College London
  • Jon Tabbush and Millie Mitchell, Centre for London

After short presentations from the invited speakers there will be a significant amount of time for questions and discussion. We intend to publish a pamphlet after the event that brings together the views of speakers and audience later this year which we will launch and disseminate to regional and national policymakers.
