NEON Outstanding Access School or College Award – WINNER
Manchester Academy has been nominated by Manchester Metropolitan University. The Academy sits in the heart of Moss Side, Manchester and almost 70% of pupils do not have English as a first language, whilst 61% are on free school meals. Against this challenging background, Manchester Academy has worked hard to raise the aspirations and attainment of their pupils and to develop a programme of interventions to raise aspirations to and awareness of university. As a result, learners should have an understanding of the career opportunities and employability benefits of Higher Education. The Academy is an excellent example of what can be achieved by schools and universities working in partnership.
