About this event

Online event

This one-day interactive workshop is aimed at WP practitioners interested in discovering and applying new approaches to collecting qualitative data for evaluation and research purposes. It will provide an introduction to innovations in widely used methods of gathering qualitative data, as well methods that have been overlooked and underused by the sector but which have the potential to offer new insights.

Reflecting these twin aims, the workshop will comprise two parts. The morning session will consider recent innovations in interviews and focus groups. The afternoon session will explore two less widely deployed methods of gathering rich, qualitative data: participant observation and photo-elicitation.

In addition to drawing on the experience of the presenter in developing and applying a range of qualitative methods of data collection, participants will have an opportunity to share their insights, with time also set aside for reflecting on which method, or combination of methods, would be most appropriate for their work.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

• Have gained an insight into innovations in two of the most widely deployed methods of collecting qualitative data: interviews and focus groups
• Recognise the potential of two overlooked and underused methods of qualitative data collection: participant observation and photo-elicitation
• Have explored the relative strengths and weaknesses of each method
• Have considered which method(s) would be best applied to their work
• Recognise the importance of ethics in using innovative methods of qualitative data collection.

Places are limited. Book early to secure your place.
