Events and Membership Services Officer

Marion is a bilingual communications and coordination professional with experience across the education and creative sectors. Her background includes PR, textile design and long-standing involvement in a bilingual school community, giving her strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach. Her experience in school settings has strengthened her ability to support diverse communities and contribute to positive, well-organised learning environments.

At NEON, she supports events, membership services, and communications, helping to deliver a professional, engaging, and seamless experience for members.

Access and Outreach for Disabled Learners

This working group is organised by The University of Law.

This group brings together practitioners from Outreach teams as well as those from Student Support to discuss their current practice and experiences of supporting disabled learners into and through HE. The group examines issues such as the respective benefits of targeted events versus inclusive events and the best approaches to making these events a success. Models of best practice are shared, assisting members in developing new activities within their own institutions and in refining activities they currently deliver.

About the Disabled Working Group: Access And Outreach For Disabled Learners (AODL)

  • We represent a vibrant forum of voices in all forms of disabled student-related issues, provisions and ‘alternative’ approaches within HE and FE.
  • We share knowledge and good practice; develop networks to support publications and engage where possible with relevant policy, and academic-practitioner communities.
  • We foster a diverse and inclusive culture of support and collaboration for the education community.

Research interests within the AODL are widespread and include, but are not restricted to:

  1. Educational inequality.
  2. Disability and intersectionality.
  3. Attainment gap in HE.
  4. Ableism in education.
  5. Transition difficulties from FE to HE.
  6. Lived experience and inclusive practice.

Announcement

  • Are you passionate about EDI, creativity, advocacy, and lived experience, or do you have a significant understanding of the challenges that disabled students face in higher education (HE)?
  • We would like to produce good working practice guidance demonstrating the good working practices that working group members have adopted in their institutions. The framework outlines further good practice guidance for HE providers and how HE providers can remove barriers for disabled students in HE settings.
  • Different theories and frameworks will be proposed to elucidate and facilitate a deeper understanding of why such issues exist.
  • Annual review will be in place to monitor and evaluate disability-related issues and amend the guidance accordingly.

Scheduled events

Attendance at Working Group meetings is free to NEON members. Non-members are welcome to attend but there is a fee of £80 per meeting.
