NEON’s Stand Alone Legacy Pledge
We sadly have to say goodbye to the Stand Alone charity as it officially dissolves this month, but that does not mean its work in supporting estranged students has to end.
Committed to continuing Stand Alone’s higher education work, NEON recently signed the following Stand Alone Legacy Pledge:
Over the years Stand Alone has ensured that the challenges faced by students, without the support and approval of a family network, and who often have no contact with their family at all, have been highlighted and Stand Alone have worked tirelessly to encourage higher education providers to take practical steps to support such learners.
NEON will work to:
- Ensure that the challenges faced by estranged students continue to be highlighted through its weekly newsletter and its programme of events.
- Work with its members to set up a NEON working group to focus upon estranged students.
- Seek to strengthen and develop partnerships with other organisations to encourage the higher education sector to support estranged students.
NEON remains very much committed to the work that has developed by Stand Alone and, as part of its broader remit to support its members to work with all groups that are currently under-represented in higher education, will advocate for this work to continue to grow and develop.
NEON wants to extend its thanks to all those who have been involved in Stand Alone for their hard work and commitment.
Our Next Steps
