In this session we will we explore different data collection approaches and how to, ethically, align approaches to the evaluation questions we are seeking to answer. In particular we will focus on:
- How to avoid deficit or normative assumptions about, for example, aspiration and success
- Thinking about causal claims and causal inferences; how to develop different data collection approaches
- Understanding the potential and limits of different evaluation instruments
- Ethical approaches to data collection
Pre-reading will include work by Tara Yosso, Melanie Walker, and Michael Quinn Patton
