Boys Impact: Using mixed methods participatory approaches to understand complexity – Dr. Jon Rainford, The Open University
In this session, we will explore the findings from a recent national survey study into teachers perceptions of young men and how these resonate with teacher and students at a local level. The talk will first highlight some of the key findings from this study, the first major piece of research into teacher perceptions of young men since 2004. In doing so, we will provide practitioners with insight that may be useful for future programme design. In the second part of this talk, we will explore how the methodology of this project, a large scale survey whose initial findings are explored in focus groups in more depth could be adapted in other settings to add depth and nuance to research and evaluation related to widening participation.
