An important message from Professor Graeme Atherton

3 Mar 2025

After 13 years leading NEON and founding the network I am stepping down from my role as NEON Director from today (3rd March). I will be focusing on my role as Vice Principal of Ruskin College, Oxford and also taking on the role of Associate Pro-Vice Chancellor for Regional Engagement at the University of West London. I want to thank you personally for your support for my work and for NEON over recent years. It has been a privilege to lead the network and to work with a community so committed to social justice.

Martin Webster will be taking on the role as Interim NEON Director from today. He has been with NEON since its formation and there is no one better placed to move the network forward than Martin. The NEON Trustee Board are working closely with Martin to ensure that NEON will be even more effective in its work at what is a crucial time for widening access and success in higher education.

I will continue to lead the World Access to Higher Education Network (WAHEN) and undertake research related to widening access and success and I hope to continue to engage with you and your colleagues in this capacity.

It is a crucial time for widening access and success and I hope that we can continue to work together through NEON in whatever capacity we can.

Very best wishes

Graeme
