The Access Platform sponsors the seventh annual NEON Summer Symposium 2019
PRESS RELEASE
The National Education Opportunities Network (NEON) is delighted to announce that The Access Platform (TAP) will be sponsoring the seventh annual NEON Summer Symposium 2019.
Taking place on Thursday 13th & Friday 14th June at Lancaster University, NEON’s seventh annual Summer Symposium will focus on the ‘The third age of widening access’. We are at the point of entering a new era in widening access. The strong focus on enabling access for working class adults gave way in the 2000s and 2010s for a fresh push towards increasing participation rates among young people in higher education (HE). Now, widening access is moving to the ‘third age’ – where access and outcomes share centre stage. But will this new era look any differently from the past?
Bringing together key figures, policy makers, organisations and employers from across the sector who are committed to social mobility through widening access to HE, The NEON Summer Symposium is one the most distinct and significant event for those working in the field in 2019.
As the Director of NEON, Dr. Graeme Atherton, states:
‘The involvement of TAP gives an exciting new dimension to this year’s symposium. TAP & NEON are both innovators in the field of widening access to higher education work and we are delighted to be working with them this year.’
George Olesen, Co-founder, CEO, The Access Platform states:
‘We’re really pleased to be supporting NEON’s Summer Symposium this year. We’ve loved attending previous events and always learn so much from the community that NEON brings together and supports. There’s so much passion and innovation pouring into widening access at the moment. It’s an exciting time, and more important than ever that we work together to share new ideas and promote best practices.’ – George Olesen
With few places remaining the NEON Summer Symposium, will be the largest national event solely dedicated to widening access, boasting over 80 sessions from organisations such as UCAS, Prisoners’ Education Trust and LEAPS. The 2-day conference will also see keynote addresses from the likes of Gordon Marsden MP, Shadow Minister for Higher Education, Further Education and Skills; Sarah Howls, Head of Access and Participation, Office for Students; Professor Craig Gaskell, Principal and CEO, University Academy 92; Andy Mellor, National President, National Association of Head Teachers.
