Outstanding Access School or College – Commendation
With a background of an increased number of students from under-represented groups in HE, the Malling School has worked hard to ensure that students are able to reach their potential. This means that more students are able to enter Higher Education. In the last academic year (2015/16) the percentage of learners with all four indicators of deprivation (as tracked through HEAT) increased to 27% from 21% in 2014/15. The progression rate (of students tracked through HEAT) has increased from 17% in 2014/15 to 19% in 2015/16. Through targeted additional support strategies the Malling School works to enable every pupil, however disadvantaged, to: improve their levels of attainment and achievement, have full access to the curriculum and their extra-curricular provision, as well as closing or exceeding attainment gaps relative to school averages. Both the Head Teacher and Progression Mentor have worked exceptionally hard to ensure this mission is at the centre of everything that the Malling School is working towards.
