Lancaster University – TRAVEL INFORMATION

NEON Summer Symposium 2019

Lancaster University is set in 560 acres of beautiful parkland and lies approximately three miles south of the City of Lancaster. The campus is easily accessible via road, rail and bicycle and is within 70 miles of Manchester’s International Airport.

By Rail

There are direct rail links between Lancaster and many of the UK’s major cities and airports. For train times, visit National Rail Enquiries.

The 4 and 4X bus services operate between Lancaster Railway Station (Platform 3 exit) and Lancaster University every 30 minutes. The journey time is around 25 minutes.

Taxis are available at the station, which is a five-minute walk from the city centre. The main taxi rank on campus is situated in Bowland Avenue outside the Chaplaincy Centre. Local taxi services provide accessible vehicles.

By Bus

In the City: The bus station is situated on Damside Street in the city centre and most services also stop at Common Garden Street. Service 1 provides a direct connection to the University every 10 minutes, Services 2, 4, 4X, 40, 41 and 42.

On Campus: All buses drop off and collect passengers in the Underpass, situated underneath Alexandra Square in the centre of campus, except for an hourly 40 or 41 journey which calls at the University gates only.

 

By Car

You can use either the RAC or AA route planners to view and print directions for your journey.

If using an online route planner or satnav, please note that the University postcode is LA1 4YW.

  • Leave the M6 motorway at Junction 33 and take the A6 north towards Lancaster.
  • For Lancaster University main campus – turn right at the third set of junction traffic lights on the A6 into the University main drive.
  • Take the first exit left from the roundabout at the top of the main drive, then follow North Drive until you reach County Avenue. Visitor Car Park Zone B is immediately to your left.
  • Please note that there is no ticket machine in Visitor Car Park Zone B. The nearest ticket machine, along with additional Visitor Car Parking, is located in Visitor Car Park Zone C, on John Creed Avenue. This is the next right after County Avenue.
  • Marketplace 2 can be found in the Blue Zone on the campus map and is marked by the letters COS.

Visitor Car Parking

Free parking is available on campus. Car parking permits are scratch cards and can be collected from the NEON registration desk on the morning of the event.

Please note:

  • Lancaster Hotel has a separate parking policy and only guests of the hotel can park there. Please provide car registration to the hotel or charges may apply.
  • The Sports Centre has a separate parking policy. Users of the Sports Centre can park for up to two hours free of charge at the Sports Centre Car Park subject to availability and restrictions. The tariff for the Sports Field Car Park is £3 per day.

Wheelchair accessible spaces are clearly marked across all car parking areas on campus. Blue Badge holders are welcome to park without charge.
